Belonging, Believing, Building a Future

Cycle Race Excitement

St Peter's were very lucky to be on the route of the Women's Cycle Tour of Britain. The children had made banners and were ready to cheer the cyclists on, when they had an extra surprise 'show' from the Police outriders who treated them to high fives, a dance show and even a pink rose for one lucky pupil!

Success at the Swimming Gala

Well done to the Year 3 and 4 children who competed in this year’s Burford Partnership swimming gala. Congratulations to Sofia and Lily who won the Year 3 and Year 4 breast stroke race, to Ted who won the float race and Sofia who won the breast stroke race. All the children who took part did so with great team spirit and were excellent ambassadors for our school.

RE and Arts Day

The whole school enjoyed an RE and Arts day with Sue and Colin Townsend, two long serving trustees of Friends of African International Ministry. Mr Townsend taught us all about life in a village in Uganda, and helped create some African weaving and necklaces. Mrs Townsend taught African dancing, singing and drumming! Pegasus were inspired to create some wonderful collaborative African Artwork which is displayed in their classroom.

To support their learning this term, Zoolab visited Cygnus and Tucana Classes and all the children had the opportunity to handle and learn about a bearded dragon, a chilli rose tarantula, a gerbil, a giant cockroach and a corn snake. They learnt lots of amazing facts about these animals.

Adventure Plus

This term, the children in Pegasus Class are having their PE lessons at Adventure Plus, an outdoor activity centre in Clanfield. Over the summer terms, the children will be developing their archery and climbing skills and later in the term, they will be camping overnight at the centre and having the opportunity to take part in a range of outdoor learning activities including mountain biking, canoeing, slacklining and fencing.

Prayer Spaces

All the children visited our Prayer Spaces in St Peter’s Church. Kirsty Morgan from BeSpace talked about different kinds of prayer and then the children had the opportunity to pray through a range of creative activities. The children thought carefully about forgiveness, joy, love and new life. Thank you to Kirsty, Tessa Farley and the staff of St Peter’s for leading the Prayer Spaces. It was lovely that the Prayer Spaces were open for families to visit after the Easter Egg Hunt and to see the children leading their families through the activities and talking about prayer so confidently.

Easter Egg Hunt

It was a glorious afternoon for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Many families arrived to follow the clues and win their Easter Eggs. There was also face-painting, an Easter raffle, 'Guess the number of eggs in the jar' and a wonderful cake sale, selling traditional Simnel Cake. Thank you to Sam Lawton and the Friends of St Peter's (FoSPs) who organised this event and to all the parents and children who came along.

Easter Bonnet Parade

The children’s Easter bonnets were, yet again, a marvellous sight. It was a lovely afternoon when the children paraded around the village displaying their bonnets for all to see. Thanks to all those who joined us as well as everyone in the village who came out to see the children.

Mothering Sunday

Our Mothering Sunday Service, led by Reverend MacInnes at St Peter's Church was a joyous occasion. The congregation took part in the tradition of ‘Clipping the Church’, and managed to encircle the entire church! The children’s lovely daffodil artwork was displayed and all the mums received an extra treat of a bunch of flowers and a delicious cake bought at the FoSPs Cake Sale, raising £50 which was shared between the school and the church.

Key Steps Gymnastics Competition

Well done to our gymnasts who took part this term in the West Oxfordshire Key Steps Gymnastics Competition. Congratulations to our Key Stage 1 team who won the silver medal, and our Key Stage 2 team who came fifth overall. Also congratulations to Sophie who won an individual bronze medal. Thank you to Mrs Lawton and Mrs Gilroy for coaching the children.

This year, the staff and children celebrated British Science Week with all the children participating in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities throughout the week. Science Oxford visited the school and provided exciting hands-on workshops for each class. The Reception and Year 1 children used their observations and knowledge to predict which objects would bounce and which would break and then they made their own slime and investigated its properties. The children in Pegasus Class explored different creatures’ habitats and adaptations. They used playdough and other craft materials to build their own creatures, thinking about what adaptations would help them to live in a particular habitat. All the children had a great week and thoroughly enjoyed all the opportunities to develop their scientific knowledge and skills!

Billy No Buzz!

The Year 2s took part in the Burford Partnership Key Stage 1 Music Festival, ‘Billy No Buzz!’, a delightful musical about the acceptance of others who may be different to ourselves. After their afternoon rehearsal the children gave a wonderful performance to parents.

National Storytelling Week

This year St Peter’s celebrated National Storytelling Week, with stories of dragons and dinosaurs. The children had a wonderful week of storytelling, including telling stories with their own sockasaurus puppets and workshops provided by The Story Museum in the pumpkin tent. Thank you to Mrs Morris and the School Council for organising ‘Cook for Books’ and to everyone who supported this event. Over £180 was raised for buying information books for our libraries.

Visit to the Natural History Museum

Tucana and Cygnus Classes visited the Natural History Museum in Oxford to learn all about dinosuars. The children were able to examine fossils and bones and ask the experts lots of questions.

This is what the children wrote about the visit.

We looked at the Iguanadon skeleton and the T-rex skeleton and its enormous head. I didn't know that I walked under a T-rex skeleton and when I looked up it made me jump and gave me a scare. There were so many fossils, I didn't know which one to look at first. In the classroom we touched a stuffed animal. Its skin was really bumpy. We learnt that flyying dinosaurs and underwater dinosaurs aren't actually dinosaurs! We learn lots of other things too.

Please see all of the photos in the Photo Gallery on the Children's Pages.

Well done to all the children who came to school today for their excellent teamwork when building their snowmen!

Bampton Fire Fighters Visit

The children in Tucana Class have been learning about ‘People Who Help Us’ and Bampton Fire Station spent a morning in school answering all of their questions including “What do you do if you run out of water?”. The children in Tucana and Cygnus Classes then had the opportunity to explore the fire engine and even have a go with the hose pipes. The firemen also gave a whole school assembly all about fire safety. Thank you to all at Bampton Fire Station for such a great morning.

Burford Partnership Football Tournament

We were very proud of our Year 3 and 4 football team who took part in the Burford Partnership Football Tournament at Burford School. They played with great enthusiasm and team spirit and won their first match!
